Rick Simcox Bio
Rick Simcox, a native Detroiter, moved to Chicago in 1997 where the Blues immersion would take its hold. In 2005, he formed the basic Rick Simcox & The ToneQuesters unit and would later recruit many of Chicago's notable Blues personnel. In 2009, Rick's independent CD release of Treat You Baby [RSTQ 20091 co-produced with Dave Specter] touted a variety of Blues styles through both studio and live performances. CHICAGO BLUES GUIDE called Rick Simcox "a talented new face on the Blues scene....the [CD] songs are upbeat, moody, gritty..........That's the blues!".
Versatility is a term very often overused in today's music scene, however, that's the first word that comes to mind after hearing Rick’s outstanding second album What We Are.
With an archive of writings collected over the last three decades, Simcox once again enlisted a group of veteran musicians including David Hildago of Los Lobos featured on 2 tracks. This time, Rick creates a sound that expands beyond the original acoustic roots of storytelling, into a world of musical studies in Americana, Country, Bluegrass and Tex-Mex music.
Rick Simcox has truly found a place for his voice with What We Are, and has given us something that has roots deep in many styles but also something that is new and exciting.
So sit back, relax and enjoy!
